Portrait
These are portraits either taken during an official publicity shoot or during one of many musical productions in which I partook as a professional singer. What makes a picture a portrait? A portraitist tries to capture the character, or soul of a person. Could a reportage photo have that same effect? Hopefully, yes, but other than with a reportage photo the photographer engages with the person in front of the camera and this person in turn engages with the viewer of that portrait. Few people love to pose, most others are often hesitant to show themselves. I try to connect in a calm way and to find out what it is a person wants to show and share with the world. I usually start with the technically most advanced and therefore safe lenses, settings and lighting and end at wider apertures with the legacy lenses that can produce special effects and character that is hard to find in state of the art lenses.
